The Power of Periods with Dr Natalie Brown

  • Mar 18, 2021
  • 1 min read

Dr Natalie Brown works for the Welsh Institute for Performance Science researching how the menstrual cycle impacts upon female athletic performance. As a climber herself, Natalie has developed an interest in discerning how the estrous cycle affects the climber at each of its four stages and how climbers might then optimize their training around them.

A former WCS guest speaker, here Natalie delivers a 2 part webinar covering this highly interesting (though rarely discussed) topic that is significant for many members of the WCS community.

Such a timely piece by Dr. Brown! I used to force myself through high-intensity sessions during my luteal phase, only to end up frustrated. I'm finally starting to track my cycle to better plan my training. On rest days or de-load weeks, I’ve found that a quick mental break on minigame is a great way to unwind and take the pressure off my climbing goals.

Interesting talk, but it’s about time this topic got the spotlight it deserves. We need to talk performance more openly. By the way, if you're into creativity, check this out https://texttosong.ai/.

Wow, a shell-less hermit crab living in a walking coral instead of a worm! That's such a cool discovery in Japan's shallow waters. Nature always has surprising partnerships.astrocarto
