  • Do I need to be an experienced climber to attend the Women's Climbing Symposium?
The event is open to women (and those who identify as women) of all levels of experience and ability. Whether you are very new to climbing or a seasoned climber you will find plenty of opportunities to develop your personal climbing at this event. The talks programme is designed to inspire all, and we hope the event will provide opportunities for women to connect with other female climbers across the country (and the world!). The workshops programme will be more beneficial to those with at least a basic experience of climbing. If you are completely new to the sport then taking a beginners' course at your local climbing wall before the event will enable you to better maximise the coaching workshops at the Women's Climbing Symposium.
  • Will we have exclusive use of the venue?
Yes! The venue will be closed to the public for the 2023 Women's Climbing Symposium.
  • Can children and young people attend the event?
The Women's Climbing Symposium programme is aimed at over 14s. Climbers aged 14-17 years are welcome at WCS as long as they (and their paperwork) meet the venue's requirements. If in doubt, please contact The Climbing Hangar, Liverpool Sandhills directly to discuss this with them. Due to a combination of child protection legislation and insurance (for both coaching workshops and the venue) all junior attendees must be supervised throughout the Women's Climbing Symposium by an adult ticket-holder.* As such, both ticket-holders must attend the same coaching workshops. If your young person is below the age of 14 and interested in the event please contact us directly to discuss further. * We understand that not all circumstances are the same. Supporting young climbers to attend WCS is important to us; we wish to include not exclude. If you would like to discuss alternative supervision needs for a young climber then please get in touch.
  • What do I need to bring with me on the day?
Your ticket covers your activities for the day. We suggest you bring: * climbing shoes (these can be hired at the venue) * chalk (this can be purchased at the venue) * clothes you are comfortable climbing in * food and drink / money for food/drink / pre-purchase your lunch when buying a ticket * a notebook and pen to take down any inspiring ideas! * warm layers * bags of enthusiasm!
  • How many Coaching Workshops and Focus Talks can I attend?
Each participant will have the opportunity to attend 2x coaching workshops and 2x focus talks.
  • How do I select which Coaching Workshops and Focus Talks I would like to attend?
Between four and two weeks before the event you will be asked to complete your registration. During registration you will submit your top 4 coaching workshop choices, in order of preference: 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice and 4th choice. We then do our best to allocate everyone accordingly. We cannot guarantee you will get your top 2 choices so it is important that you provide us with 4 different choices - if you do not we may allocate you to workshops you did not want to attend. We will also ask you to choose when you would like to attend these coaching workshops. By being flexible in your timings it may be easier for us to fit in your coaching workshop choices, but by expressing an afternoon or morning preference for coaching you have the opportunity to protect particular focus talks that you wish to attend. If there is a focus talk you wish to attend please request for your coaching workshops to be at a different time to that focus talk and we will try our best to accommodate your request. You will not need to submit focus talk choices. On the day, when you are not in a coaching workshop, you will 'vote with your feet' and join the focus talks of your choice.
  • Where and when can I purchase tickets for the Women's Climbing Symposium?
Tickets for WCS23 are on sale via our online shop. https://womensclimbing.myshopify.com
  • Can I purchase tickets for another person / other people?
Yes you can... how generous of you! Immediately after purchasing the ticket(s) you will be offered the option to transfer each ticket. We recommend you do this immediately so that the intended guest(s) can complete their registration information and download their ticket(s). Tickets cannot be downloaded until registration is complete. Those with downloaded tickets will receive the workshop booking email as soon as it is available. Please do not complete the registration on their behalf. Each event attendee must complete this themselves.
  • How do I organise a lift / accommodation share?
Each event all ticket-holders will be invited to join a private facebook group 'WCS: Connect.' You can use this group to reach out to other ticket holders and arrange to share travel and/or accommodation costs. Connecting with other female climbers before, during and after the event is a huge benefit of the Women's Climbing Symposium and there is a friendly community out there waiting to help!
  • I can no longer attend, can I get a refund?
Refunds are possible up to 6 weeks before the event. At this point we need to commit to our overheads including chairs, AV system and staff so will not be able to refund. You may transfer your ticket to someone else, or if the event is sold out, we can offer it to be sold on to the waiting list. Thanks for your understanding.
