If you're visiting Sheffield for the weekend and would like to take your skills outdoors under some expert instruction, why not book onto one of three courses run by the amazing Sam, Cath and Vicky from our favourite outdoor providers Leading Edge Mountaineering? These three courses will cover all levels of experience for those wishing to develop their outdoor skills.

introduction to rock - £60

A day spent getting to grips with climbing outside. Very practical, lots of hands on (and feet on) fabulous gritstone. Spending as much time as possible learning the fundamentals of moving well on rock. All the while covering the key safety processes of tying in, belaying and buddy checking.

Previous experience: None, or perhaps has only bouldered indoors.

Equipment required: Rock shoes, Harness. (Can be borrowed, Helmet. (Can be borrowed)

Ratio*: 1:4

introduction to Trad - £60

Time to get geeky with gear. A practical day spent de-mystifying trad climbing. We will look at introducing and utilising a trad gear to build belays and set up top and bottom ropes, then you get to test the system by climbing the routes you have rigged. A nice mix of rigging and climbing.

Previous experience: Put on and tie in to a harness. Belay a second.

Equipment required: Rock shoes, Harness, Helmet (can be borrowed).

Ratio*: 1:4

Climb confidence - £60

The performance pyramid practically. Everything rolled into one intense day, looking at technique and tactics that can help you maximise your climbing, either leading or seconding. Lots of head game coaching with take away able tips to manage and quieten the fear monkey. All climbing will be safeguarded by a top rope but we can facilitate mock leading.

Previous experience: Lead or second trad routes, Put on a harness and tie in, Belay.

Equipment required: Rock shoes, Harness, Helmet (can be borrowed). A trad rack is useful but not essential - bring anything you have :)
